SCC Saskatoon Marathon Races
Guest Coach Rebecca (Barton) Davis
This year at the July races the Saskatoon Canoe Club is welcoming guest coach Rebecca Davis from Michigan. Rebecca is the daughter of Roxanne (Triebold) Barton and Bruce Barton, a former Olympic paddler and marathon canoe champion. Her cousin Andy Triebold is the top marathon canoe paddler (mens) in North America.
Rebecca has been paddling and racing marathon canoes ever since she could walk and holds many firsts and course records in races in North America and overseas. She is especially interested in pack riding, technique and race strategy to improve race performance. Here are some of her achievements:
Saskatoon Race Weekend Info 2019
Race registration $20 per race. This includes clinic, barbecue (Saturday night), and post-race food. There will also be draw prizes from our sponsors.
Friday July 12 – group paddle with Rebecca
6 – 7 pm – Victoria Boathouse
Join us for a short, easy group paddle with informal coaching. Everyone welcome! Bring your questions and pick up some paddling tips and race strategy from Rebecca and other paddlers. This paddle will be nice and easy so we stay fresh for racing.
Saturday July 13 – Cranberry Punch
TBD to Victoria Boathouse
This race will be a downstream run into the city, ending at the Victoria Boathouse. Start location will be determined closer to race day taking into account low water levels; race times should be under 2 hours. There will be a shuttle organized at registration and Rebecca will run a clinic before the race.
10:00 am – Registration opens (Victoria Boathouse)
10:30 am – 11:30 am Clinic (Victoria Boathouse)
11:30 am – Race briefing (Victoria Boathouse)
11:45 pm – Shuttle leaves for race start
~ 12:30 pm – Race start
~ 2:30 pm – post-race munchies
6:30 pm – BBQ at Cory and Edith’s house (1009 Aird Street). Food will be provided, please bring your own beverages and lawn chairs (if you have). Come share your stories of the day!
Sunday July 14 – Eb’s Classic
This is a slightly shorter race with a looping course. You’ll be paddling both upstream and downstream with lots of buoy turns. Spectator friendly so bring your buddies!
9:00 am – Registration at Victoria Boathouse
9:30 am – Race briefing
10:00 am – Race Start
11:30 am – Post-race lunch and prizes
Held on the Sunday of the same weekend as the Cranberry Punch, the Eb's Classic is a multiple loop (upstream and downstream) along the South Saskatchewan River starting and ending at the Victoria Boat House in Saskatoon.
