Group Paddles
A membership with the marathon division of the Saskatoon Canoe Club is required to participate in SCC Marathon Group Paddle Sessions.
A certain fitness level is expected for group paddles - be prepared to paddle with minimal stops for an hour or more (up to two hours later on in the season). Paddles begin at the Victoria Boathouse and usually head upstream to the mailboxes or sometimes all the way around Yorath Island. No equipment is necessary, but if you have your own paddle or PFD feel free to bring it. Wear paddling clothes and bring a water bottle. If carrying essentials that cannot get wet (such as a phone or key fob) make sure to bring them in a dry bag or ziploc. Although we never plan to, be prepared to swim!
Wednesday Night Paddles (May - Sept, 6:30 - 8:15pm)
This paddle is intended for folks who have some experience paddling canoes and are looking to improve their skills and perhaps get into racing. Newer paddlers will be paired with "mentors" who will provide feedback and guidance on technique, tactics, and racing strategy. The philosophy of this group is to organize equal-speed boats and to paddle together to optimize skill building. Group paddles may have a focus such as buoy turns, wash riding, stroke technique or other skill. Attending a Wednesday group paddle is mandatory as part of your registration orientation.
Sunday Morning Paddles (May - Sept, 10am - 12pm)
Friendly and relaxed group paddle that is not coached. This is a great opportunity to work on your skills with other paddlers in a more casual environment. Following the paddle members often meet somewhere nearby for coffee.
Fast Boats Paddles (Thursdays in May & June, 5:45 - 7:15am)
Paddle with the pros! This is for those who have experience in pro-boats and wish to step things up a notch. Veteran racers pair with newer paddlers to work on stroke, wash riding, and paddling at speed.
Women on Water (Tuesdays in June, 6:30 - 8pm)
Join other women paddlers for friendly and informative group paddles in June. Led by experienced female paddlers, this group paddle is focused on building confidence and community and working on skills in a relaxed environment.
